Department of Chemistry

Situated in the picturesque surroundings on the Campus of RPS Degree College offers programs leading to M.Sc. The Department of Chemistry was founded in 2012 (i.e. the birth year of the college), the department of Chemistry is one of the prestigious departments of RPS Degree College. It has on its faculty highly competent and efficient members whose work is internationally recognized. Several faculty members are recipients of awards and honours, such as Young Scientist Award, Meritorious Research Fellowship in Science, Visiting Research Fellowship for carrying out research in India and abroad. At the same time, they are involved in the various administrative bodies of RPS Group of Institutions and contribute towards the running of the home institution.

The department has stimulating undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes. Frequent summer institutes, refresher and orientation courses have been organized for the benefit of talented students. The department has good laboratory facilities for carrying out practical knowledge of the fields such as: Organic Synthesis, Chemical Analysis, Instrumentation, Catalysis, Photochemistry etc.

The library of the chemistry department has excellent collection of books, research journals; it occupies a special position of pride in the department. The Department runs special coaching programme for IIT JAM, JEST, BARC, TIFR, SINP, ONGC etc.

VISION

* To provide students with a broad and balanced foundation of chemical knowledge and practical skills.

* To develop in students the ability to apply their chemical knowledge and skills to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in chemistry.

* To develop in students, through an education in chemistry, a range of transferable skills, of value in chemical and non-chemical employment.

* To provide students with a knowledge and skill base from which they can proceed to further studies in specialised areas of chemistry or multi-disciplinary areas involving chemistry.

* To generate in students an appreciation of the importance of chemistry in an industrial, economic, environmental and social context.
